Overview

For information on the description and operation of the systems, refer to section 417-01 - Exterior Lighting of the workshop manual.

Inspection and Verification

. Verify the customer concern.

. Visually inspect for obvious electrical faults.

  • Controller area network (CAN) circuits

. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.

. Use the approved diagnostic system or a scan tool to retrieve any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before moving onto the symptom chart or DTC index.
Because the DTCs are stored in more than one module, a complete vehicle read is recommended

Symptom Chart

Symptom Possible causes Action
Rear/License lamp(s) inoperative
  • Bulb failure
  • Fuse(s) blown
  • Circuit fault
  • Lighting control switch fault
Check the bulb and fuse condition (see visual inspection). Check the rear/license lamp circuits. Check the lighting control switch function. Refer to the electrical guides. Check for DTCs indicating a rear/license lamp circuit fault.
Rear/License lamp(s) dim
  • Incorrect bulb rating
  • Circuit fault
  • Lighting control switch fault
Check the bulb condition and rating. Check the rear/license lamp circuits. Check the lighting control switch function. Refer to the electrical guides.
Rear/License lamp(s) stuck on
  • Circuit fault
  • Lighting control switch fault
Check the rear/license lamp circuits. Check the lighting control switch function. Refer to the electrical guides. Check for DTCs indicating a rear/license lamp circuit fault
Rear/License lamp(s) inoperative when the automatic headlamp switch option is selected
  • Fuse(s) blown
  • Lighting control switch fault
  • Circuit fault
  • Rain/Light sensor fault
  • LIN circuit fault
Check the fuse(s) (see visual inspection). Check the lighting control switch function. Check the automatic headlamp circuit. Refer to the electrical guides. Check for DTCs indicating a rain/light sensor or LIN system fault.

DTC index

:
Generic scan tools may not read the codes listed, or may read only 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool to the first 5 digits of the 7-digit code listed to identify the fault (the last 2 digits give extra information read by the manufacturer-approved diagnostic system).

DTC Description Possible causes Action
B1A9801 LIN Bus Circuit #1
  • LIN Bus short circuit to power or ground
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. The LIN Bus is the serial link to the rain sensor, sunroof, memory seat modules which are optional install items, but the control of the DTC logging is determined from the car configuration file (CCF) (installed or not). Repair action only required if one or more items installed and not functioning correctly. Refer to the lost communication statement at the start of this table.
B1A9881 LIN Bus Circuit #1
  • Software error
  • Rain/ambient light sensor lost power during transmission
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. No repair action necessary unless customer complains of rain sensor, roof opening panel or memory seat not functioning correctly.
B1A9883 LIN Bus Circuit #1
  • LIN Bus check sum error
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. The LIN Bus is the serial link to the rain sensor, sunroof, memory seat modules which are optional install items, but the control of the DTC logging is determined from the car configuration file (CCF) (installed or not). Repair action only required if one or more items installed and not functioning correctly. Refer to the lost communication statement at the start of this table.
B1B551C Rain Sensor Module
  • Rain sensor module supply voltage out of range
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. Refer to the electrical guides and check the power supply to the sensor module from the CJB, repair as necessary. If the power supply exists, no further action necessary, clear/ignore DTC.
B1B5546 Rain Sensor Module
  • Rain sensor module calibration/parameter memory failure: Initialization error - unable to perform optical calibration
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. Check the cleanliness of the windscreen in the sensor location. Check for correct installation of the sensor to the optical element and the adherence of the optical element to windscreen. Clear DTC and retest. If DTC persists, renew the rain/ambient light sensor.
B1B5549 Rain Sensor Module
  • Internal electronic failure
Check the rain/light sensor module and circuit. Refer to the electrical guides. Refer to the warranty policy and procedures manual if a module is suspect.
B1B5587 Rain Sensor Module
  • Missing message
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. Rain sensor is not installed to all variants (optional). Fault logging is inhibited by the CCF, but an incorrectly configured CCF could give erroneous DTC logging. Repair action only required for vehicles with sunroof installed. Where necessary refer to the lost communication statement at the start of Communications Module section.
B1B5591 Rain Sensor Module
  • Rain sensor module - measured temperature outside of normal operating range
No action necessary, clear/ignore DTC.
B1C6012 Sidelights Relay Output Circuit
  • Side lamps relay output circuit short to power
  • Rear tail/brake lamp bulb incorrect spec
  • Rear tail/brake lamp bulb fault
A bulb fault can also cause DTC B1B0187 to be logged in the Network Communications Module and DTC C1A5564 to be logged in the Park Brake Module. A fault in this circuit causing DTC B1C6012 to log could also cause up shift issues on automatic transmission vehicles. Check the rear tail/brake lamp bulbs for correct type, installation or faults including a short circuit of the bulb filaments. Refer to the electrical guides and check side lamps relay output circuit, repair/renew as necessary.
B1C6014 Sidelights Relay Output Circuit
  • Rear/License lamp relay output circuit short circuit to ground
  • Rear/License lamp relay output circuit high resistance
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system.
B1D4013 Lighting Switch Connection Circuit
  • Lighting switch connection circuit open circuit
Refer to the guided diagnostic routine for this code on the approved diagnostic system. Refer to the electrical guides and check the switch circuit, repair/renew as necessary.
U1A1449 CAN Initialisation Failure
  • Internal electronic failure
Check the power and ground circuits to the component. Refer to the electrical guides. Configure the module(s) using the approved diagnostic system. Refer to the warranty policy and procedures manual if a module is suspect.
